Top Ten Albums of The Past Decade

So I just spent an afternoon and about $70 bucks browsing the KEXP DJ’s List of the Top Ten Albums of 2010.

A lot of the choices were unsurprising. A few of them clued me in to bands I’ve been aware of but haven’t given enough attention to, like Animal Collective and Sufjan Stevens. I was very pleased to see The National make an appearance on many of the lists, as they are one of my favorites. But what really surprised me was the complete lack of The Postal Service’s fine 2003 album Give Up on any of the lists.

I mean, seriously? The Postal Service introduced indietronica to the mainstream, Jimmy Tamborello taught Ben Gibbard how to produce (OK here’s what I’m saying: look at Transatlanticism versus The Photo Album), and there was a period of about nine months where literally EVERY ESTABLISHMENT IN SEATTLE would eventually play a cut from that album. Bar, coffee shop, hair salon, even fricking Qwest Field!

At any rate, I decided to create my own list. Of course, I’m not a KEXP DJ but I am a Libra — so I had to create three separate top ten lists. Eyes forward, readers, as I present to you…
